Two arrested after car drives through campsite


A woman is critically ill in hospital after a car drove through tents at a campsite near Caernarfon.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident at the Rhyd y Galen holiday park on the outskirts of Bethel during the early hours of Monday morning (19th August).

Emergency services, including paramedics and fire crews, were called out to the campsite at just after 2am.

Detectives say four people were injured – including a woman, who was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor in a critical condition. Another woman and two men have been discharged from hospital.

The two suspects are still being questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.


DCI Sion Williams from North Wales Police said: ”This was a terrifying event for people who should have felt safe in their tents.”

He added officers were ”supporting those involved and our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has been seriously injured.”
