Preparations have officially started for the 2021 National Eisteddfod in Boduan.
Around 400 people attended a public meeting on Tuesday night (12th November) welcome the Brifwyl to Llŷn ac Eifionydd for the first time in over 30 years.
Last month, organisers confirmed the venue for the festival on parkland at Bodfel Hall in Boduan following much speculation. The announcement also dashed Caernarfon’s hopes of hosting its first Eisteddfod since 1979.
Attention has now turned to forming the executive and fundraising committees as a recruitment drive begins to attract volunteers to help organise the event.
Lead organiser Elen Elis said: ”It was great to see so many people at the meeting, especially on such a cold and windy evening. There was a warm welcome and the enthusiasm was clear to see across the hall.”
”I always enjoy the first public meeting. Starting the process in a brand new area, and seeing so many people joining in, some of them are familiar faces who’ve supported the Eisteddfod for years, and others are new faces, keen to work with us and take part for the very first time.”
”And that’s what we saw in Pwllheli…everyone supporting and keen to make the 2021 Eisteddfod an amazing success.”
”Nominations for Chair, Vice-chair and the Executive Committee Secretary, and the Chair of the Local Fund Committee are currently open, as are the nominations for the Chair and Secretary of each of the other Eisteddfod committees. You can either nominate yourself or another suitable individual for any one of these posts.”
”Remember to complete the form – we need to know who’s nominating an individual as well as their details…and being a member of a committee does not affect your right to compete, so don’t think that you’re unable to take part because you’re part of the team.”
Nominations for the committees close at midday on Friday 15th November. For more information, visit the National Eisteddfod website.
The next meeting will held on Tuesday 26th November, when the list of competitions will be discussed. The committee officials will also be named during the meeting at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor in Pwllheli, starting at 7pm.
