Barclays to close Holyhead branch

Barclays is to close its Holyhead branch in the spring.

The banking giant says it will shut four Welsh branches in the spring, blaming an ongoing decline in customers.

The closure on Friday 3rd May will leave the Llangefni branch as Barclays’ last remaining presence on Anglesey – it’s believed staff will be offered jobs at other branches.

Plaid Cymru AM for Ynys Môn, Rhun ap Iorwerth, said he’ll be seeking an urgent meeting with Barclays and described the decision as ”another big blow for Holyhead”.

He said: ”Of course I get it that footfall is falling, but the (banking) sector has to realise that this kind of uncontrolled mass exodus is having a deep impact on our high streets and towns.”

A Barclays spokesman said customer usage of the Market Street branch had fallen 15% in the past two years – but added banking services will still be available at the town’s post office.

He said: ”The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.”

Three more branches in the South Wales Valleys are expected to close by May – at Tonypandy, Abertillery and Ferndale.

The four Gwynedd branches at Bangor, Caernarfon, Pwllheli and Porthmadog are not affected.

After seeing the amazing ease, credit card fraud has become part of british banking, where vast amounts are stolen easily everyday, aided by the banks themselves (as seen on the media) in some cases, the public perception of banks is changing from being a solid part of financial life to a very flaky setup with many banks closed ,the public are being told, that’s the way it is, that is ok for school children, but the reason the public are being guided to online banking is the fact that there are no banks open ,anyone can see from past history just how good the movers and shakers are at making ,huge mistakes which reveals huge incompetence.
