A woman killed in a crash between a boat and a jet ski on the Menai Straits has been named.

Jane Walker was a passenger on a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) when it collided with the jet ski at around 7.30pm last Saturday evening (8th August).

The 52 year-old from Staffordshire was taken ashore by paramedics and sent to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where she later died.

In a statement, Mrs Walker’s family said they were ”deeply shocked and devastated by the sudden passing” of a ”much loved family member”.

A joint investigation between police and the Maritime Accident Investigation Branch is trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash. But it’s believed the boat and the jet ski were between the slipway at Menai Bridge and Bangor Pier at the time.

The coroner for North West Wales, Dewi Pritchard Jones, has been informed, and an inquest is expected to be opened at a later date.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who saw or filmed any jet skis or a RIB between 5pm and 7.45pm on the evening of the crash to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney said: ”We are continuing to liaise with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) into the circumstances of this collision. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mrs Walker at this time.”
