The search has resumed for a missing light plane and its pilot, which disappeared of the east Anglesey coast.

The aircraft was on its way from its way from Caernarfon Airport to the Great Orme in Llandudno, when it disappeared from radars near Puffin Island at just after 12.45pm on Monday (25th November)

It’s believed the plane was a Cessna aircraft, which was last seen near Penmon. There were no other passengers on board.

The Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon is combing the area along with rescue teams on land from Penmon and Bangor and a senior operations officer. A plane with a sonar technology camera is also being used.

The search was suspended at around 10pm on Monday night, but resumed at first light on Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Essi Ahari from North Wales Police confirmed on Monday evening that the plane was due to make a return flight from the Great Orme in the afternoon.

He added: ”The aircraft had one pilot on board and no other passengers and family liaison officers are supporting the missing pilot’s family.”

The RNLI’s lifeboat crews from Beaumaris, Moelfre and Llandudno were also sent to the scene on Monday along with North Wales Police.

A spokesperson confirmed two lifeboats – the Atlantic 85 from Beaumaris and the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat from Moelfre – were launched within a short time of each other at around 1.15pm

They added: ”The volunteer crews are searching an area around Penmon and are joined by Coastguard teams from Penmon and Bangor and a coastguard helicopter.”

No lifeboats were sent out as the search resumed on Tuesday but the RNLI says it remains on standby.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has also sent out a team to investigate an accident involving a light aircraft near Beaumaris. There are no further details at the moment.
