Rhosgadfan man jailed for drug driving

North Wales Police

A Rhosgadfan man caught drug driving while he was banned has been jailed.

Peter Hughes (31) admitted driving under the influence of cannabis while disqualified and without insurance last July. He was jailed for 20 weeks and given another two year driving ban.

Police said Hughes was spotted driving in the Conwy area by an officer – he was arrested after he was tested positive for cannabis at the roadside. Further tests later found he had been driving at almost twice the legal limit for the drug.

Reacting to sentencing at Caernarfon Crown Court, PC Sean Edwards of the Roads Policing Unit said: ”Whilst most drivers are aware of the dangers of drug-driving, it is disappointing that a minority are persistently offending.”

”Choosing to drive when impaired by drugs is dangerous and unacceptable…I welcome the sentence given and hope it sends a strong message to anyone who considers driving under the influence of drugs to be acceptable.”
