Man killed in New Year’s Eve crash near Caergeiliog

A man has died after a two vehicle crash near Caergeiliog on New Year’s Eve.

The 64 year-old local man was driving a black Vauxhall Mokka car when it collided with an HGV on the A55 eastbound near junction 4 at around 11.50pm on Tuesday night (31st December).

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

The eastbound carriageway remained closed between junctions 4 and 5 (Caergeiliog – Bryngwran) for around six hours. Three fire crews from Holyhead and Amlwch attended the scene of the crash.

Sergeant Darren Newby from the Roads Policing Unit said: ”We are looking for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information on the nature of the driving of the black Vauxhall Mokka involved prior to the collision, or who may have dashcam footage.”
