Man charged with running down tents at campsite

A man has been charged after a car ploughed into tents at a campsite.

Police say Jake Waterhouse is accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at the Rhyd y Galen site near Bethel in the early hours of Monday morning (19th August).

Four people were injured, including a woman who remains critically ill at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

Police say the 26 year-old from Greater Manchester has also been charged with driving without insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis.

Waterhouse will appear before magistrates in Llandudno on Wednesday morning.

A second man arrested following the incident has been released on bail, but remains under investigation.

DCI Sion Williams from North Wales Police said: ”As a result of this disturbing incident, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charging a 26 year old man from the Manchester area.”

”The woman injured during the incident remains in a critical condition in hospital and our thoughts and support remain with her and her family.”
