Llangefni hit-and-run: policeman released from hospital

A policeman run over by a car at a petrol station has been released from hospital.

The plain clothes officer was hit by a Volkswagen Golf during a routine stop at the Texaco petrol station in Llangefni on Tuesday afternoon (25th September).

Detectives say the officer’s injuries are not as serious as first thought and he’s now recovering at home.

A 47 year-old man arrested in Menai Bridge following the hit-and-run has been released on bail while the investigation continues – his car was seized by officers.

Superintendent Richie Green said: ”I’d like to thank the witnesses for coming forward and supporting the investigation. My immediate focus is for the continued recovery of the officer whilst the investigation is ongoing.”

Anglesey’s Chief Inspector, Mark Armstrong, said local officers had shown ”considerable bravery” and ”resilience” following the incident.

He thanked emergency services and members of the public for coming to the aid of the policeman, after visiting him at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor on Tuesday evening.
