Llanbedrog shooting: two men face manslaughter trial

Bodfuan Shoot

Four men will go on trial in the Autumn in connection with a fatal shooting in a pub car park.

Peter Colwell (18) died from shotgun wounds outside the Ship Inn in Llanbedrog in February last year – he was shot in the rear seat of a parked car.

Two of the men, Ben Fitzsimmons (22) from Nanhoron, near Pwllheli and Ben Wilson (28) from Ely in Cambridgeshire, deny manslaughter through gross negligence. They were charged following a case review by prosecutors last November.

Harry Butler (23) from Llaniestyn and Michael Fitzsimmons (25) from Nanhoron also deny possessing a loaded shotgun in a public place at four locations – Pwllheli, the Bodfuan Estate in Nefyn, Abersoch and Llanbedrog.

Mr Justice Clive Lewis rejected a plea from both Butler and Michael Fitzsimmons to drop the charges against them when they appeared before Mold Crown Court. They were sitting on either side of Mr Colwell when he was shot.

The trial, expected to last three weeks, will begin at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday 19th November.
