A Belgian fisherman is recovering in hospital after he suffered a serious hand injury off the Anglesey coast.
The crewman was on a boat 28 miles north of Holyhead when he was injured while hauling at around 10pm on Sunday night (17th February).
The Caernarfon coastguard helicopter was called out after a doctor recommended the fisherman should be airlifted off the vessel as soon as possible.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said the helicopter flew through near gale force conditions with winds reaching up to 40 knots.
The fishing boat’s crew had already provided first aid treatment to the crewman’s hand by the time the helicopter arrived at just before 11pm.
The fisherman was winched onboard and taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
