Detectives are still questioning a pensioner on suspicion of murder following the death of an 74 year-old woman in Fairbourne.
A 75 year-old man was arrested after the woman was found with serious injuries at a house on Francis Avenue on Christmas Day. She was pronounced dead despite efforts to resuscitate her.
Police were given an extra 36 hours to detain the suspect during a special hearing at Llandudno magistrates on Friday morning.
DCI Brian Kearney, whose leading the investigation, said police believed it was an ”isolated tragic incident”.
He added: ”Our thoughts continue to be with the victim’s family as they come to terms with their loss and specially trained family liaison officers continue to support them. We continue to request that their privacy is respected at this very sad time.”
“I also wish to reassure our local community that incidents of this nature in North West Wales are very rare.”
