A 75 year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after an elderly woman was found dead in Fairbourne on Christmas Day.
Emergency services were called to an address on Francis Avenue, where a 74 year-old woman was found with serious injuries at just after 8pm on Wednesday evening (25th December).
Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of her family, paramedics and police officers.
The suspect remains in custody at a local police station and the woman’s relatives are being supported by specialist liaison officers.
A major incident room has been set up by detectives at Caernarfon police station and the coroner for North West Wales, Dewi Pritchard Jones, has been informed.
Chief Inspector Brian Kearney said police weren’t looking for anyone else in connection with the death: ”This is a truly tragic and very rare type of occurrence in north west Wales…family liaison officers are supporting the victim’s family and our thoughts remain with them. I would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
