Holyhead’s leisure centre has been temporarily closed after a rat was found in the gym.
Environmental health officers have ordered the centre on Kingsland Road to remain shut until at least the end of the week while a deep clean of the building is carried out.
The rodent was spotted on Monday by a member of the public, leading to swift action by Anglesey Council to temporary close the centre, which was built in the early 1970s.
Gerallt Roberts, commercial leisure manager, said: ”This will give us time to work with colleagues in Environmental Health to ensure that the entire building is secure and that it fully cleaned before customers are allowed in again.”
The council has apologised to customers for the inconvenience, but said public health remained their priority.
