Two burglaries in Bangor city centre

Police in Bangor are investigating break-ins at two city centre restaurants.

Thieves stole three charity boxes and a small amount of cash from the till at Jasmine restaurant on the High Street at some point between 9.30pm on Monday night and 9am on Tuesday morning. They managed to enter the building via the back door.

Meanwhile, the Penguin Cafe – also on the High Street – was targeted at sometime between 6.30pm last Wednesday evening and 8.30am last Thursday morning. The offenders gained entry via the skylight but escaped empty-handed via the fire door after the alarm was activated.

Detectives said they were keeping an open mind about whether the two burglaries were linked. PC Lisa Thomas from Bangor police station said: ”We are appealing to anybody who may have seen suspicious behaviour around the High Street to contact us. Local officers have looked at local CCTV and carried out enquiries in the area.”

Anyone with information about the break-ins should call Bangor police station on 101, quoting reference numbers V172470 (Jasmine restaurant burglary) or RC17169895 (Penguin Cafe break-in).
