A van driver has admitted causing the death of an Anglesey nurse by dangerous driving.

Mother-of-two Susan Owen was killed when her white BMW collided with a Volkswagen Transporter driven by Barry Slaymaker on the Nant-y-Garth Pass between Pentir and Y Felinheli in September last year.

Slaymaker (31) from Gwalchmai had denied causing Mrs Owen’s death but changed his plea to guilty before he was due to stand trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Mrs Owen (50) from Pentre Berw, near Gaerwen, was described by her family as ”a special wife, mother, daughter and sister”. She had worked in the Hergest unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

The court heard the crash occurred when an object flew off Slaymaker’s van and the prosecution’s case was concerned with how he had loaded the vehicle rather than his driving.

Judge Huw Rees released Slaymaker on bail, but told him to expect a prison term when sentencing takes place on Wednesday 29th November.
