Crackdown steps up on churchyard drinkers

Police in Holyhead are stepping up efforts to tackle drunken behaviour around St Cybi’s Church.

Officers say a community protection notice has been issued for the churchyard and offenders caught behaving in anti-social manner could face prosecution.

In the past six months, drinkers causing a nuisance have been reported ten times by the public – 21 ‘yellow cards’ have been issued and warning letters have been sent to the offenders. In a recent foot patrol, several alcohol containers were also seized and disposed.

In a statement, officers said: ”The public can be reassured that North Wales Police are taking positive action to ensure that drinking in the churchyard is unacceptable and if individuals persist in doing so they will face prosecution.”

Anyone who spots any anti-social behaviour in the churchyard should contact Holyhead Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
