Bangor City are the new leaders of the Welsh Premier League after a 1-0 win over Gap Connah’s Quay.
The Citizens followed up Saturday’s dramatic victory at Aberystwyth by seeing off the ten-man Nomads in a tight affair – replayed at Nantporth after the original game was abandoned due to a floodlight failure.
The visitors offered the more promising start but City started to threaten as Dean Rittenberg and Gary Taylor-Fletcher began testing keeper Jon Danby. Luke Ward was also denied with a 25 yard effort, while for Connah’s Quay, Kai Edwards had a goal ruled out for an infringement.
Few chances came immediately after the break but City gradually took control as Rittenberg and Ward again saw shots parried away – as did Brayden Shaw. But it all came good with 20 minutes left as Taylor-Fletcher headed home from just outside the six yard area to break the deadlock.
Danby thwarted all attempts to double the lead – including a late penalty for Rittenberg – while George Horan was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.
City are two points clear of reigning champions The New Saints with newcomers Barry Town United next to visit Nantporth on Saturday (2.30 ko).
