After reaching the semi finals last season, Llangefni Town were given a free pass through the first two rounds of this season’s FAW Trophy.
Monday’s third round draw in Cardiff saw them dealt a home clash with Welsh National League side Hawarden Rangers – while the holders, Chirk AAA, start their defence at home to Penrhyndeudraeth, who beat Llandudno Albion 4-2 on Saturday.
As such, just one other Anglesey club has a guaranteed spot in the third round so far. Pentraeth’s reward for beating Blaenau Ffestiniog 2-0 is a trip to Mynydd Isa Spartans, who won promotion to the Welsh National League last season.
Five Gwynedd clubs coasted through their second round ties – notably Llanystumdwy of the Gwynedd League, who knocked out Welsh Alliance opposition in Y Felinheli, winning 4-3. They’ll face more third tier opposition when they travel to Meliden.
Two second round games in the North West – Gaerwen v Mynydd Llandegai and Trewern v Dolgellau Athletic – were postponed and have already been rearranged for next Saturday.
