Cofis step up preparations for new WPL season

Preparations are gearing up at The Oval ahead of Caernarfon Town’s second season in the Welsh Premier League – and their first full campaign under new manager Allan Bickerstaff.

The Cofis will start the first phase of their 2019-20 season with a visit to reigning champions The New Saints on Friday 16th August (7.45pm ko)

That kicks off a frantic opening fortnight which sees Caernarfon host Connah’s Quay in their opening home game a week later (23rd August) followed by a Bank Holiday clash at home to Cefn Druids on Monday 26th August.

Their first live apperance on Sgorio involves a visit to newly-promoted Airbus – in a clash between the last two champions of the now-defunct Huws Gray Alliance on Friday 30th August (8pm ko).

The league’s newcomers, Pen-y-Bont, visit Caernarfon on Saturday 14th September before the return fixture at Bryntirion Park in November.

Looking further ahead, the Gwynedd derbies with Bala Town take up the festive double-header before the first phase wraps up with a Friday night trip to Cardiff Met on Friday 17th January.

By then, it’s hoped the Canaries will have secured another top six finish as they look to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish.

Caernarfon have been slower than other North Walian clubs to make close season signings. Centre-half Mike Pearson arrived from Llandudno, followed earlier this month by ex-Porthmadog defender Gruff John Williams and former Bangor City striker Sam Jones, who scored three goals for Ynys Môn on their way to winning gold at the Inter-Island Games.

The fixtures for the new FAW Championship – involving Bangor City, Llangefni Town and Porthmadog – will be announced on Friday afternoon.
