Cofis prepare for Cymru Premier run-in

For the second year running, Caernarfon Town are assured of a top six finish in the Cymru Premier.

The Cofis kick off the end-of-season run-in with a televised Gwynedd derby at home to Bala Town on Friday 7th February.

They’ll follow up their Championship Conference opener with away games at Connah’s Quay a week later and Barry Town United on 22nd February. The regular season will end with a visit to reigning champions The New Saints on 25th April.

Although manager Sean Eardley will be able to target another push for European football, Caernarfon’s most recent form is perhaps a more pressing concern.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Cardiff Met – which saw Gruff John sent off for a professional foul – was their fourth defeat from a five-game barren run.

Injuries and suspensions have taken their toll, leaving Caernarfon to rely on results elsewhere to secure their top six berth. They’ve also lost striker Cai Jones, who returned to Porthmadog last week, citing personal reasons.

On the plus side, Eardley has signed the versatile Telor Edwards from Port until the end of the season. The former Llandudno midfielder spent last summer on trial at Leicester City before he was signed by ex-Port manager Sion Eifion Jones in August.

Cofis captain Nathan Craig has also returned to the fold after he suffered concussion during last month’s derby defeat at Bala – he returned to action during Saturday’s game at Cardiff Met.

With a prolonged break in action – besides a televised Welsh Cup clash at Ammanford on Friday night – Caernarfon will be hoping they can turn a corner and leave behind a disappointing run of results as attention turns towards gearing up for the end-of-season play-offs.
