Cofis face Students in Welsh Cup semis

Caernarfon Town will face Cardiff Met in the semi finals of this season’s Welsh Cup.

The Cofis reached the last four after last Friday’s 4-0 win over ten-man Cefn Druids – with goals from Jamie Crowther, Sion Bradley and Gruff John, plus an own goal from the Ancients’ Nathan Peate.

Victory in the driving rain was particularly sweet for manager Huw Griffiths. Not only was it his first since taking charge at The Oval, but it was against his former club, who sacked him at the end of January.

It’s the second time Caernarfon have reached the Welsh Cup semis in the last three years. In 2017, they were beaten 3-1 by eventual winners Bala Town.

Their opponents, who won the Nathaniel MG Cup last season, knocked out one of the cup favourites, Connah’s Quay, in a 2-1 win on Deeside on Saturday.

The other semi final sees holders The New Saints facing a club from the second-tier Cymru North. League leaders Prestatyn Town will visit Flint Town United on Tuesday night for their rearranged quarter final to decide who will face the reigning champions.

The draw for the semi finals was made live on S4C’s Heno on Monday night by Amlwch tenor Gruffydd Wyn, who won Can i Gymru over the weekend, and electro-pop singer songwriter Ani Glass.

Both ties will be played at neutral venues on the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th April.
