Coinicidence or otherwise, the first two names out of the hat in Monday’s quarter final draw for the FAW Trophy set up a big Anglesey derby.
There’s definitely no coincidence in that the two clubs in question are also the main rivals for the Welsh Alliance title.
Bodedern Athletic currently lie two points clear at the top of Division One, though Llangefni Town have two games in hand. Cefni also have another potential Welsh Cup upset in their sights when they face Welsh Premier strugglers Llandudno at the end of the month.
Bodedern reached the last eight of the Trophy with a 2-1 win at home to Four Crosses on Saturday – thanks to key marksmen Aidan Clarke and Shaun Jenkins.
Elsewhere in the fifth round, Llangefni dispatched Llanrug United 4-0 in a North West derby which belied their opponents’ league form. Alan Mark Owen wrapped up the win with a stoppage time penalty after goals from Craig Roberts, Kev Lloyd and Iwan Jones.
The two sides will meet at Cae Bob Parry on Saturday 9th February.
Meanwhile with a prolonged break getting underway in the Welsh Premier, Caernarfon Town have arranged a mid-season friendly with Llangefni at The Oval tonight (Tuesday 15th January) – Cefni are expected to be at full strength for their clash with the Canaries.
Kick off is at 7.45pm with entry costing £3 for adults, £2 for concessions and £1 for under 16s.
