A teenage boy will face no further action from police over a big gorse fire in Blaenau Ffestiniog over the Easter holiday.
The 15 year-old was arrested on suspicion of arson after the blaze broke out near Llechwedd on Easter Monday (22rd April). He was also questioned on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and causing a public nuisance.
At the height of the fire, around twenty surrounding homes had to be evacuated – around thirty firefighters were called out and it took around 24 hours to extinguish.
Detectives treated the incident as ”a deliberate and criminal act” – but on Wednesday, they announced their investigation had ended and no further action will be taken. PC Aled Jones said: ”Our enquiries into the gorse fire in Blaenau Ffestiniog…have now concluded and a 15 year old boy arrested on April 24 is no longer being investigated on suspicion of arson.”
Another man, Mark Thomas (49), was also arrested and later charged with obstructing police officers.
