A judge has warned a Criccieth man to expect a lengthy jail sentence after he admitted causing a fatal crash.

Ysbyty Gwynedd nurse Rebecca Louise Edwards was killed in a three vehicle crash on the A499 at Penrhos, near Pwllheli, on Friday 21st December.

Osian Sion Hicks Thomas pleaded guilty to causing Ms Edwards’ death when he appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday. He still faces further charges of drink driving and failing to stop and report an accident.

Thomas (20), from West End, spoke only to confirm his details and his guilty plea during the short hearing. He did not apply for bail – but Judge Huw Rees agreed to a plea from the defence to suspend sentencing to allow a report to be prepared.

Ms Edwards, from Llanberis, was described by her family as a ”precious and beautiful lady” who ”had an amazing future ahead of her before being stolen from us.” She had opened her own business shortly before she died.

Thomas was remanded in custody until sentencing at Caernarfon on Monday 4th February.
