Inquest opened into Holyhead prisoner’s death

An inquest into the death of a Holyhead man in prison has been opened and adjourned.

The body of Robert Frith (65) was found by officers at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham on Saturday 14th November.

The former psychiatric nurse was one of six people charged with an alleged child kidnapping in Gaerwen. He was due to appear at Caernarfon Crown Court next month.

The Ruthin hearing was told a post-mortem examination had concluded suffication from a plastic bag was the provisional cause of death.

In the week leading up to his death, Mr Frith had been remanded in custody by Llandudno magistrates awaiting a plea hearing.

North East Wales coroner John Gittins adjourned the inquest until a later date as a separate investigation into the death is being carried out by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

Meanwhile, three women and two men are due to appear at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday 7th December.
