Bangor man jailed for serious assault

A Bangor man has been jailed for three years for a serious assault at a block of flats.

David Brian John repeatedly punched a vulnerable man in the stairwell of Llys Branwen in Maesgeirchen in April.

The victim was taken to hospital with a serious internal head injury, cuts and bruises.

Caernarfon Crown Court heard John (35) was caught on CCTV knocking the man to the floor and attacking him. Another man intervened as the victim tried to defend himself.

When he was arrested the day after, John refused to answer police questions, but later admitted causing grievous bodily harm when he appeared in court.

He also admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order, which was extended for a further five years.

Judge Huw Rees told him he had ”deliberately caused more harm than was necessary”.

After sentencing on Thursday, Detective Inspector Andy Gibson said: ”The imprisonment of this dangerous individual is welcome news for the local community – this was a vicious and sustained attack on a vulnerable person.”
