The body of a young sperm whale has been found on a beach on the Llŷn Peninsula.
The carcass was discovered washed up on Tuesday (29th October) at Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth) near Abersoch.
It’s believed to be the first discovery of its kind in Wales and only the second time it’s happened in the UK in over a century.
A post-mortem examination to determine the cause of the whale’s death was due to be held on Wednesday afternoon.
The Zoological Society of London has sent a team of experts to Gwynedd to investigate the discovery, along with the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.
Visitors to Porth Neigwl have been urged to avoid all contact with the body and any bodily fluids to avoid any risk of infection.
