A woman has died in a two-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Gellilydan.
Emergency services were called out to the A487 at just before 9.50pm on Thursday night (11th July) after a blue Renault Scenic collided with a blue Mitsubishi ASX.
A local woman, who was a passenger in the Renault, was pronounced dead at the scene – her next of kin have been informed but she has not yet been formally identified.
Several people, including both drivers, were treated for minor injuries – at least one person was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. Two fire crews from south Gwynedd also attended the scene
The road was closed for more than eight hours between Gellilydan and Maentwrog for recovery work and the first stages of an investigation into what happened – it was fully reopened by around 6.20am.
The crash occurred near the spot of a fatal crash in January 2018. Anna Williams (22) from Penrhyndeudraeth, and her six-month old niece, Mili Wyn Ginniver, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, died after the car they were travelling in hit a lorry.
Sergeant Meurig Jones from the Roads Policing Unit said: ”Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family…we are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have seen the vehicles travelling along the A487 prior to the collision to come forward.”
