North Wales Police

A man has been charged with stealing a Taser after a police officer was assaulted in Bangor city centre.

Barry John Roberts (37) was arrested after a plain clothes officer was attacked on the High Street last Thursday afternoon (4th July). The officer needed hospital treatment but was not seriously hurt.

Roberts appeared before magistrates in Caernarfon on Tuesday morning, charged with stealing the police stun gun and possessing of a weapon designed or adapted for discharging an electrical incapacitation device.

Detectives say some component parts of the police stun gun have been recovered – but the main body of the weapon is still missing.

Detective Inspector Dafydd Curry said: ”Our team of detectives will relentlessly continue with the investigation until all of the Taser is located and there will be further police activity in response to this unacceptable incident.”

A seventh person was arrested yesterday in connection with the incident – six men were questioned last week but three were later released without charge.

Anyone with information about the assault or the stolen Taser should contact Bangor police station on 101, quoting reference no. X093333, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
