An Anglesey couple who sexually abused a child have been jailed.
Sion Griffiths, from Nebo, near, Amlwch was sentenced to seventeen years in prison for rape. His partner, Ffion Jones, from Amlwch, must serve ten years for engaging in sexual activity.
The pair denied all charges but were found guilty by a jury at Caernarfon Crown Court last month.
The court heard the child told a friendly in May what Griffiths (20) had been doing.
He found out via text messages from Jones (27) who had threatened to report him to police. He replied back: ”Fine. Ruin me.”
Prosecutors said Griffiths (20) had a fetish for dressing up as a baby and putting a dummy in his mouth during the attacks. Photos found on a mobile phone seized by police upon his arrest showed him wearing a nappy.
Griffiths’ defence said he accepted that his ”morally abhorrent” crimes would lead to a significant jail sentence. Jones’ lawyer said she planned to better herself and use her prison term ‘constructively’.
Judge Huw Rees told Griffiths and Jones that their ‘warped behaviour’ amounted to serious sex abuse. He said it was too early to properly assess what harm it caused to the victim but warned ”it is clear harm is likely to manifest itself at some point.”
Both defendants were placed on sexual harm prevention orders – they will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
After sentencing on Thursday, a spokesperson for NSPCC Cymru Wales condemned the pair for ”deplorable and repeated acts of sexual abuse against a defenceless child for their own gratification”.
They added: ‘‘The lengthy jail sentences imposed reflect the grave nature of their crimes and will ensure that they cannot target other children…it is important that they receive effective treatment behind bars to reduce any risk they pose on their release while the survivor of their appalling abuse must now be given all necessary support to recover and carry on with their life.”
