Caernarfon-Llandudno clash rearranged after power cut

Caernarfon Town will replay their Welsh Premier game with Llandudno this weekend after it was abandoned due to a power cut.

More than 1300 people turned up at the Oval for the Boxing Day clash, which also saw former Canaries boss Iwan Williams reunited with his successor, Sean Eardley.

But after a lengthy half time wait, officials called a halt to the game after much of Caernarfon lost electricity for the third time in less than a month.

It will be replayed at midday on Saturday lunchtime – with free entry for all spectators.

For what it was worth, it was an incident packed 45 minutes despite the lack of goals – with Caernarfon’s Ryan Williams sent off for a rash challenge on Dudno’s Alun Webb. Six yellow cards were also dished out between both sides.

With the visitors at the bottom of the WPL table and Caernarfon losing ground on the top six, the afternoon ended prematurely and in frustration. Half time was extended by some fifteen minutes, but the club decided against waiting any longer for electricity to return.

Scottish Power said a fault in their network was to blame for the power cut, which hit at around 2.30pm and lasted around two hours.

Earlier this month, vandals were blamed for another power cut after a pole and bricks were thrown at a substation near the leisure centre on Ffordd Bethel. A £2,000 reward has been put up for information which leads to an arrest.

Elsewhere at Y Traeth, Bangor City came out top in the Gwynedd derby, beating Porthmadog 2-0 in the Huws Gray Alliance.

A crowd of 576 at Y Traeth saw Marc Williams and Sam Dool hand City the bragging rights and end an eight-game unbeaten run in the league for Porthmadog.

Second-place Port are just a point above Bangor, who return to Nantporth on Saturday for their final game of 2018, when they face Guilsfield (1pm ko). Elsewhere, Porthmadog visit a resurgent Prestatyn Town (2.30pm ko) and bottom club Holyhead Hotspur are on the road at Gresford Athletic (2pm ko).
