Beaumaris by-election victory for Roberts

Laura Roberts has been elected as a new town councillor for Beaumaris.

She beat Robert Macaulay by a majority of 72 votes for the vacant Beaumaris Town Council seat in Thursday’s by-election. The poll was triggered by the resignation of independent councillor Ian Davies in May.

It was the ninth seat on the council to be contested this year. By-elections for eight vacancies in the West, East, Central wards took place in March following a wave of resignations in a row over allegations surrounding health and safety breaches and the town clerk.

Mr Macaulay also stood for a Central ward seat in March, but lost by just one vote to Gwen Evans-Jones.
