Young people in the North West are being encouraged to come up with new ideas for creative events.

Cwmni Frân Wen, the Menai Bridge-based theatre company, has launched #2018 – a new fund aiming to help turn an idea for an arts event into a reality.

The competition is open to 16-25 year olds across Wales and the winning bid will get £2018 in funding plus professional support and guidance from artists and industry experts.

Elgan Rhys from Cwmni Fran Wen, said: ”We’re looking for innovative and original ideas, but it’s completely up to the young people what they put forward. It could be an online event, a music and theatre hybrid gig or a digital exhibition – anything goes.”

”It’s about us empowering young people to flourish and also boosting their enterprise and creative skills.”

Applications will be whittled down to a shortlist, who will pitch their ideas to a ‘Dragon’s Den’ panel of creatives and performers at M-SParc in Gaerwen on Saturday 6th October.

The panel includes actor and playwright Seiriol Davies, presenter and singer Lisa Angharad, designer Gwyn Eiddior, Ceri Charles from Arts Council Wales and the managing director of M-SParc, Pryderi ap Rhisart.

Mari Morgan, Frân Wen’s participatory officer, said: ”Frân Wen’s participatory work has already supported thousand of young people to participate in the arts and #2018 will help us build on this success.”

”We are fiercely dedicated to ensuring that young people’s voices are heard in influencing the future of the arts in Wales. They have told us that arts and culture play an important role in their lives and #2018 is delighted to support their passion.”

If you’re interested in applying for the #2018 fund, e-mail your idea to [email protected] – the closing date for entries is Saturday 30th September.
